I am pleased to offer our first-ever one-day publishing workshop on Friday, October 9, 9-2:30, in Room 9 at Edison. Enrollment is limited to 12 students. We will spend the day creating stories, comics, photos, reviews, and more to publish in a special edition of the Edison Light Bulb, to be distributed online and in print to all Edison families. As a special group project, we invite students to bring in 1-2 ingredients for smoothies or trail mix. We will invent our own recipes, consume them for snack (!) and then review, rate, photograph them, etc., etc., to include in our special edition of the Edison Light Bulb. The cost of the workshop is $35. You may use our online enrollment form or download and print a form for this workshop, but your enrollment is not complete until you submit cash or a check for $35, made out to "Kirsten Haugen" (to Kirsti's box in to the Edison office). Limited scholarship support is available by request.
Please note: I often receive more registration forms than I have spots available, so please wait to hear from me that your child has a confirmed spot in the class. I will let you know within one day of receiving your enrollment and payment. I will enroll students on a first-come, first-served basis, using a lottery if needed (in case I receive more registration forms than spots available in one day).
The class is open to any 3rd-5th grader, but enrollment is limited. We meet for 8 weeks, beginning September 16, and our second issue will be out by mid-November. Cost is $85 per student (limited scholarships available). Enrollment forms are available now until 9/14. Please pick up a form at school or contact me if interested!
What: Contribute your skills (and learn new ones!) during our eight week session to produce a newsletter in print and on the web, with room for news, reviews, comics, fiction, poetry, interviews, photography, illustrations, advertising, jokes, puzzles, and more. You’ll get to work with digital cameras, graphics tablets, portable word processors, audio recording, scanners, and Macintosh computers with iWork Pages, Comic Life, iLife, PhotoBooth, Skitch, Inspiration and more.
When: 3-4 publishing sessions per year; 1 1/2 hours after school, once a week, for 8 weeks.
Who: Edison students in 3rd-5th grade. Limited to 12-16 students.
Cost: $85 / 8 weeks (scholarships available)
How: If interested, please fill out my short interest form. I will then notify you when registration opens for the next session and other classes or camps that may interest your child. At that time, please fill out a registration form and return it to the Edison office with payment &/or scholarship request. Enrollment is first-come, first-served and classes fill up often in a day or two.
Please note, this Fall 2009, publishing will be on Wednesdays from 1:05 to 2:35 pm.
